It is quicker to follow signs to Kyle of Lochalsh and to drive across the Skye Bridge (toll free). It should also be noted that some GPS systems give directions from Fort William to Mallaig. A ferry can be taken from here to Armadale on Skye, however, schedules are limited and it would be wise to check the timetable.
From Portree
Follow signs towards Dunvegan. About 17 miles out of Portree you will pass by a village called Edinbane.
About 1.5 miles past Edinbane you will see a sign towards Greshornish.
Turn right towards Greshornish onto a single-track road. After 2 miles you will arrive at the entrance to Redwood House Hotel marked by two white pillars.
From Dunvegan
Follow signs towards Portree. After about 7 miles you will see a sign towards Greshornish.
Turn left towards Greshornish onto a single-track road. After 2 miles you will arrive at the entrance to Redwood House Hotel marked by two white pillars.
Depending upon the time of year, there may be deer, lambs, sheep or cows along the final 2 mile stretch of road. It’s all part of the charm of Skye, but please drive carefully.
